Nebraska vs. Indiana

The No. 2 Nebraska swept Indiana 3 games to none (25-19, 25-19, 25-20). Morgan Broekhuis lead the Huskers with 12 kills of the night. Nebraska came out hard in the first set, but closer to the end Indiana was fighting back. The Huskers take the first set 25-19. In the second set Indiana came out wanting it, then the Huskers came back and took it 25-19.  In the third set both teams wanted it badly. It went back and forth with points. The Huskers took the third set also 25-20.

I think they played a really good game. They knew what they had to do and came out and did it. Lauren Cook was back playing, so they had their starting setter back playing with them. Things were back to normal. They played really well with the other setter also. I think they did a really good job not worrying about having a different player on the court and going out and playing their game. Luckily, this game they got their starting setter back.

Huskers vs. Michigan State

The No. 2 Huskers defeated Michigan State in three sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-23). Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 13 kills on 26 attacks. In the first set the Huskers came out early and took the lead. They were was never a point in the set that Michigan was ahead, they just could never catch up. In the second set the Huskers went out strong again, but there close to the end Michigan had a five point run, but Huskers won the set, making it 2 games to none. In the third set the Huskers took an early lead, but Michigan came back and tied it. Michigan was on top 16-11 over Nebraska. The Huskers had a five point run which tied it at 16 all. The Huskers were down 20-18, when the huskers came back and was tied at 22 all. Finally, the Huskers ended the match 25-23.

The Huskers played a really game against Michigan State. I was really nervous to see how they would play since their starting setter had to sit out. In case you are all wondering what happened to Lauren, she pretty much did a hit and run. She was also on a suspended license, which doesn't make the situation any better. She is scheduled for court sometime soon, and we will find out more from what happens with court. I thought it was really cool, because they have a senior setter that doesn't ever play. It was cool that she finally got to play some.

Nebraska vs. Penn State

No. 1 Nebraska went and played No. 8 Penn State, and Nebraska lost in four (17-25, 15-25, 25-17, 17-25). Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 14 kills. Penn State came out hard in the first game, you could tell they really wanted that win. The Huskers just trailed behind the whole game, they just couldn't catch them. The Huskers lost the first game 17-25. The Huskers came out a little harder in the second game, they were going point for point. Then, Penn State had 7 points in a row, and the Huskers could not catch up. The Huskers lost the second set 15-25. Huskers came out in the third, they were down 2 games to none, and they needed to catch up. They played a lot better in the third game, and took the win 25-17. In the fourth game you could really tell that Penn State wanted the win more then anything. They came out hard, and did what they had to do get the "W" over Nebraska, 17-25.

The Huskers didn't really play their game. They would get to far into a hole, and couldn't get out. They beat Penn State the first time they played them. Penn State came out really strong, and played very well together.

Nebraska vs. Iowa

The No.4 Nebraska played Iowa, in Nebraska. Nebraska won in three (25-14, 25-14, 25-11). Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 14 kills out of 29 attempts. The Huskers were always ahead in the first set, besides at one point in the game it was tied, but that is the closest they got. The Huskers came out in the second set, and did what they had to do. They took a huge lead right from the beginning. In the second set they kept it rolling, and that didn't stop them. They easily took the third set, and they got a three game sweep over Iowa.

They played a really good game. They knew what they had to do and came out and got it done. I was really impressed on how well they played. I think that when they are in a huge lead like that they should put some of the freshman in so they get some playing time. Then that way they would know what to expect when they get ready to play.

Nebraska vs.Minnesota

The Nebraska Huskers beat the Minnesota Gophers. Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 18 kills on 46 attacks. It was a five game victory for them (28-30, 19-25, 25-10, 25-12, 15-11). It was a pretty close match throughout the night, it went back and forth each game. In the first set they battle back and forth, one team would take a lead and then the next. Finally, Minnesota won the first set 29-30. In the second set it was still point for point. Nebraska made to many errors in the second set, and Minnesota took the second set 19-25. In the third set Nebraska came out and knew what they had to do to win. They got up 10-0 right away, they came out and played their game. Huskers took control right from the beginning and they kept the momentum rolling all the way to the end, closing the game at 25-10. In the fourth set Huskers came out and did it again, they knew what they had to do and they did it. They played a really good game, closing it to 25-12. In the fifth set it was a little nerve racking but they Huskers managed to take over control, winning 15-11.

The Huskers played a really good game. I think that in the first in second sets, they could have came out a little harder and they probably could have taken it in three instead of five. In other words they played a really good game. They are lucky they came out in the third, fourth, and fifth sets, and played their game. If they wouldn't have came out in the third especially they probably would have gotten beat. Least they know when to step their game at the right point.

Nebraska vs. Indiana

Nebraska won 3-0 over Indiana (25-19, 25-14, 25-13). In the first set Nebraska was always ahead. They never fell behind once. They play very well, they could have picked up a few more balls in the first set, but at least they still won. In the second set the Huskers came out and took over from right at the beginning. There was no stopping them now. They kept the momentum rolling into the third game. They came out in the third game and took control right from the start.

The Huskers played a very good game. There was no stopping them. They knew what they had to do, and got it done. I think that when they get really far ahead on some teams they should put one of the freshman in there just for some playing time. I was really impressed on how well they cover. They get so many digs that you wouldn't think that they would be able to get.

Nebraska vs. Michigan

Nebraska played a very good game against Michigan (25-17, 26-24, 25-16). Nebraska is still undefeated in their conference. Morgan Broekhuis led the Huskers with 13 kills, she was on fire Saturday night. No one could stop her. Gina Mancuso was also playing a very good game. Nebraska took control over the match in the first set. The second set was a different story, Nebraska finally took the lead at 20-16. Then Michigan came back and tied at 23 and also at 24 and then Nebraska closed the set 26-24. The third set the Huskers came out and took control of the game right away. Nebraska controlled the tempo of the third set.

I think that the Huskers played a very good game. They weren't really playing up to their potential. They could have beaten Michigan way worse then they did. In the second set they kind of came out thinking they could easily win this one also. Well, that wasn't the case, Michigan came out wanting to win and Nebraska was back on their heels. I think that they could have gotten a lot more digs then they did. They didn't really go for many. Their serves also weren't the best, they missed a few serves. They hitting in the front and back row was amazing they have some tall hitters that know how to hit the ball.

Nebraska vs. Ohio State

Nebraska got a 3-1 win over Ohio State this weekend, they are now 2-0 for The Big Ten Conference. In the first set it was close throughout. It was a battle till the end and Nebraska took the set 25-23. The second was also close. Ohio won 25-23, tying the match at one set a piece. Nebraska on the the third set came out and got an early lead 10-3. They took that set with a score of 25-11, making it to 2 games to 1. In the fourth set in started off point for point, and eventually jumped to a lead at 15-9. Nebraska took the set 25-16, and took the match 3-1. Lauren Cook led the Huskers with14 digs and 41 assists.

The Huskers played an extremely well game. They were also at home, so they knew their gym very well. It's so much easier playing in your home gym, because you know the surroundings. They were very on top of their game. In the first and second set they could have played a little better, they came out very slow. Finally in the third and fourth set they came out and played their game. It was a lot better game in the third and fourth.

Huskers vs. Iowa State

The Huskers swept right through Iowa State (25-23, 25-15, 25-18). Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 14 kills. In the first set Nebraska fell behind to Iowa 10-6. Nebraska tied the game at 14 with a kill by Broekhuis. They tied again at 20, and another kill from Broekhuis put the Huskers ahead. They won 25-23. In the second set Nebraska took an early lead 7-3. They eventually stretched the lead to 10-4. A kill by Simpson made it 19-11. On a service ace Mancuso, Nebraska took the set 25-15. the Huskers energy carried over into the third game where they went up 5-3 on kill by Thramer. Iowa fought back and tied the game up, and a kill by Werth put Nebraska up 10-9. Mancuso had another ace to put Nebraska ahead 11-9. The match got tied 16-16, but the Huskers came out and kicked it into gear. An error by Iowa gave Nebraska a 21-16 lead. Nebraska took the set 25-18.

The Huskers played a very good game, they didn't let much past them. In the first game they could have came out a little stronger. When they get ahead they need to stay ahead they can't let down and let the other team score and let the other team catch up to them. Overall it was a very good game. I was really impressed on how they played. They are very well at putting the ball down.

Nebraska vs. Weber State

Nebraska No.11 just rolled right on by Weber State (25-15, 25-7, 25-16). Gina Mancuso led the way for the Huskers with 15 kills on 26 attempts. In the first set Weber State came out and took an early 3-1 lead. The Huskers came out and tied it up 11-11. Thanks to an attack error by Weber, the Huskers took a 15-12 lead. Again, an attack error from Weber put Nebraska up 20-14. Weber only scored one more point and ended the game 25-15. In the second set the Huskers came out ahead 11-0. The Huskers got two huge kills by Mancuso and a ace by Werth, and the Huskers took the set 25-7. In the third set the Huskers went up to 9-4. A kill by Mancuso put the Huskers up 14-7, before Thramer made it 16-8 with a kill of her own. The Huskers held at 16, eventually winning 25-16.

I think they had a really good game. They came out and just dominated in the game. I was really impressed how well they did. The Huskers were just on a roll and didn't let it end. Mancuso was on a hitting roll that night. Weber State just couldn't stop them, or even get a hand on them. I wish they would have put some of the girls in that never really played. I think it would have been kind of sweet, since they never get to play and Nebraska was just dominating. They could have put them in, in the second game since they won 25-7.

Huskers vs. Colorado State

On Friday night the Huskers ranked No. 3 fell to Colorado State ranked No. 15 (25-12, 25-11, 16-25, 20-25, 9-15). Gina Mancuso lead the Huskers with 24 kills and 41 attempts with a hitting percentage of 0.341. In the first set the Huskers came out and took an early lead, Colorado just couldn't get anything back and Huskers took the game 25-12. Nebraska jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second set, eventually stretching it to 19-5 and taking the set, 25-11. Colorado State came out in the third set, after the break, and took the game 16-25. In the fourth set the Huskers and Rams fought point for point. Colorado State got it to 16-12. Nebraska had to call a timeout. After the timeout Nebraska came back to 17-16. Then fell 25-20 after fight for each point. In the fifth set Huskers and Rams battle for each point, but Rams took a late lead at 12-8. The Huskers couldn't quite get it done and lost 9-15.

I think that the Huskers could have won that in three. They can't get down in between games. It is hard to watch them win big in the first two and then lose in the next three. They could have had a better serve recieve. It was hard for them to get anything up, or even get a hand on a ball, in the third match for sure. They did a little better job in the fourth, but just could not get it done. If they just could have held it together in the fourth game they could have beat Colorado State.

Introduction

I'm writing about the Nebraska Husker volleyball team. This blog will talk about the weekly games that they play.
